-As shown here the cats had a very big significance in the Egyptian household, the cat represents the god of happiness. -In most of the Egyptian cat sculptures and artwork what i noticed is that the cats seem to have the same posture in every piece. The cats are naturalistic as you can see they look like normal cats with no other characteristics or features of a human or other animal. I noticed the jewelry such as piercings on their ears and/or nose also makeup/writings around their eyes which tend's to emphasize their eyes. The posture gives the sculptures a "Bold" and "Organic" look yet they also have a free flowing arch to their backs which normal cats have. The gold carvings and symbols make this piece of art stand out.
In the Egyptian's relief sculptures i noticed a lot of carving's and a lot of symbols. The first sculpture they all have similar clothing on and even one of them has an animal head which would be "Anthropomorphic" considering that is has both human and animal characteristics. They also are all
in the same posture but are looking in different ways.
I'm not one hundred percent but i see like a moon like symbol on top of the head of one of the individuals and in the second sculptures the Egyptians are looking up at a similar sun/moon figure which could possibly mean that he is a god like figure. In the second sculpture their is a sense of height and position meaning their in order from shortest to tallest. "The lines and carvings in the sculpture are very abstract and what caught my eyes the most out of this sculpture is the lines which could be possibly rays or some sort of light reaching out to the Egyptian people. Their holding cups of some sort so maybe they are possibly receiving the lights in their cups, who knows?
A lot of Egyptian artwork, sculptures tend's to be with more than one person and/or a group of people such as the third one. Seems to be done with clay so it has some cracks and wear but it has a very bold yet smooth look. Like in the cat sculptures the eyes tend to be more noticeable or emphasized even though they are small. They seem to be king and queen with their headdresses on in one chair. They are barefoot and although they are not detailed they have a naturalistic feeling to them as in you could see the features to their faces and their body postures add to that lifelike look.
"The first thing i noticed are the eyes, most of the greek sculptures look as if they have no soul or no emotions, and their body movements and body postures make up for the lack of facial expressions" This Bust sculpture is naturalistic due to its body and body parts, but it is missing a few parts such as its arms which i noticed in other greek sculptures as well. It has a very pale look to it since it has no color although the hair is very abstract with the noticeable lines and curves.
This lady's posture was the first thing i noticed besides her arms, it looks as if she is struggling in some sort of way as she is kinda leaning in pointing in one direction with her bicep. What i find the most fascinating is the lines and the amount of details on her dress which looks very surreal only because her dress seems to be the most detailed part of the body. Her missing arms, lack of details in the eyes and the way her posture is adds to the surrealism.
This Greek portrait also has that pale but bold look. What i noticed is that it has highly detailed haired and once again that no soul look in the eyes which possibly means something in the greek culture and i believe that's one of the reasons why they stand out so much. The wavy hair texture makes this portrait look unique because it's the only abstract detail i see. Their are no eyebrows and no wrinkles so this portrait must be of a young person.
Hi Orlando,
ReplyDeleteVery descriptive but I have a few constructive comments...Keep your writing more objective- not subjective- i.e. avoid phrases like.."I'm not a hundred percent" or "who knows". Base your writing on what you have learned in the online lecture and the assigned reading and how your observations illustrate what you have researched. The only way I know you have watched the online lecture is if you use the information you have learned in your essay. Prof Harmon
